Wrinkle Fillers with Hyaluronic Acid
Dermal fillers offer an excellent solution for addressing sagging skin and the tired appearance that often comes with age and the natural effects of gravity on our facial features. In addition to visibly softening and smoothing wrinkles, they also contribute to an overall improvement in skin condition. By hydrating the skin from within, they help restore a naturally firmer, more supple, and radiant complexion.
Which Wrinkles Can Be Treated with Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are particularly well-suited for rejuvenating the lower part of the face and are effective in treating both dynamic wrinkles and more prominent static lines — those visible even when the face is at rest. They are most commonly used to treat the following areas and concerns:
- Nasolabial folds – deep lines running from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth
- Marionette lines – also known as melomental folds, these extend downward from the corners of the mouth towards the chin
- Under-eye hollows – appropriate fillers can effectively correct deep tear troughs
- Sunken cheeks – fillers restore lost volume in the cheekbone area, giving a fuller, more youthful appearance
- Chin and jawline contouring – including lifting sagging jawlines (jowls), correcting a receding chin, and enhancing the overall definition of the lower face and profile
- Perioral area – softening of fine lines around the lips and lifting downturned corners of the mouth
- Smoothing of acne or chickenpox scars – in select cases where laser treatment alone is insufficient
In addition to wrinkle reduction and facial contouring, we also offer lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid fillers at Esthé.
Hyaluronic Acid – The Skin’s Natural Filler
At the heart of dermal filler treatments lies hyaluronic acid – a substance naturally present in the human body. Thanks to its unique ability to bind water, it plays a vital role in maintaining hydration, elasticity, and firmness of the tissues.
As we age, the body produces less and less hyaluronic acid, leading to dehydration of the skin, a loss of elasticity, and, inevitably, the formation of wrinkles. Dermal fillers are based on hyaluronic acid in a low-molecular-weight form, which ensures better stability and enables the filler to provide structural support from within, effectively “lifting” the wrinkle from below.
How Dermal Fillers Work
Using a precisely targeted injection, hyaluronic acid is introduced into the deeper layers of the skin (the dermis), where it physically supports the wrinkle from underneath. As a result, the line becomes shallower, less pronounced, or may even disappear completely. The same technique can be used to restore volume in areas such as the cheeks and chin, helping to recontour the face and restore youthful definition that naturally fades over time.
The key to achieving optimal results lies in selecting the right product. Only an experienced practitioner can choose the most appropriate formulation based on the treatment area and the type of wrinkles. Various products can also be effectively combined to enhance and complement each other. Treatments are often carried out in stages – for deeper wrinkles, a firmer filler may be placed in the deeper layers first, followed later by a softer formulation closer to the surface of the skin.

How Long Do the Results Last?
A partial lifting effect is noticeable immediately, but the full results typically develop over the course of 3 to 4 weeks. This includes improved hydration, enhanced radiance, and stimulation of the skin’s natural collagen and elastin production. Your complexion will appear visibly healthier and more refreshed from the very first glance.
The effects generally last between 6 to 12 months, after which the treatment can be safely repeated.
The fact that the results are temporary is actually a benefit. As we age, the shape of the face changes – we lose fat pads, soft tissues, and even bone structure. For example, the chin may gradually recede. Permanent fillers may no longer suit the face over time, as the underlying structures shift. Using resorbable materials that gradually break down allows for a more natural, adaptable approach, with repeat treatments tailored to the evolving contours of the face. In the hands of our experienced physicians, you will age gracefully – subtly, and beautifully.
What to Expect During Treatment
The filler is administered using a fine needle or a cannula. To ensure a pain-free experience, a topical anaesthetic gel is applied to the treatment area approximately 30 minutes beforehand.

- Avoid sun exposure and excessive heat for several days following the procedure.
- Stay well hydrated in the days after treatment — ideally with plenty of plain water.
- Refrain from touching the treated area for several hours after the procedure.
- We recommend avoiding make-up immediately after treatment. If necessary, use a completely new product to minimise the risk of infection.
- Skincare products containing retinol, vitamin C, or AHA/BHA acids should not be applied for at least 24 hours, as they may irritate the treated area.
- For 1–2 days, avoid intense physical activity and temperature extremes such as saunas, cryotherapy, or tanning beds. Be gentle when washing, cleansing, or otherwise handling your face.
- Do not undergo cosmetic massages or laser treatments for at least two weeks after the procedure.
- Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before and after treatment. Alcohol dilates blood vessels and may increase the risk of bruising and swelling in the treated area.
- Your practitioner will provide you with full guidance before the procedure.
Treatment is not recommended in the following cases: pregnancy or breastfeeding, known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients in the filler preparation, and any ongoing infectious condition – this includes anything from a mild cold to an active cold sore or mouth ulcer.
The ideal time to repeat treatment is when you notice the effect fading. Duration varies individually depending on metabolism—some people see results lasting about 6 months, others up to a year or more.
FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions About Dermal Fillers
It is best to undergo the procedure around one month prior to the event. This gives any swelling or bruising time to subside and allows the fillers to fully integrate, revealing the final result in its best form.
After the procedure, you may notice mild swelling or small bruises around the injection sites. Because the treatment involves several needle entries, there is a slightly increased risk of hitting a small blood vessel. These small bruises are harmless and typically fade within a week. To help reduce swelling, you can gently cool the area using a cold compress or a refreshing thermal water spray.
Both methods are used in aesthetic medicine to correct wrinkles but achieve results differently. Fillers smooth wrinkles by restoring volume—hyaluronic acid physically “lifts” the wrinkle from underneath. Botulinum toxin works by relaxing the facial muscles, thereby smoothing out expression lines. Botulinum toxin is mostly used in the upper face and is more effective on dynamic wrinkles, while fillers address deeper, static wrinkles that are visible even on a relaxed face.
Absolutely. Fillers are often combined with botulinum toxin or mesotherapy in a single session. Botulinum toxin targets different wrinkle types and facial areas (see above). Mesotherapy supports the effect of fillers and helps improve overall skin hydration and elasticity.
Laser treatments can be performed the same day only if they target a different area.
Hyaluronic acid fillers gradually dissolve over time, making them a safe and minimally invasive option. Unlike permanent solutions such as silicone implants or polymethylmethacrylate fillers, your doctor can adjust treatments to suit your natural ageing and changes in soft tissue and bone structure. This ensures that the filler won’t appear mismatched to your facial features as they naturally change over time.
