Stitching of ear holes and earlobes

We perform stitching of ear holes after tearing the lobe, sagging holes from heavy earrings or after widening the hole from the so-called tunnels. The holes can be completely sewn or only reduced. On day of surgery, correction of both ear holes is possible.

WHO IS THE PROCEDURE SUITABLE FOR?

The procedure is suitable for anyone who has a damaged ear hole or an entire lobe. If the injury is acute, then it is best to sew the lobe immediately, otherwise it is necessary to wait until the injury is completely healed. Before correcting the earlobe after wearing the tunnel, it is recommended to remove the tunnel at least 3 months before the planned surgery so that the size of the defect no longer changes.

It is mainly a procedure for an adult patient, but it can be done at any age. In children, the procedure is approached only in acute wound and the consequences of injury. In general, we recommend earlobe surgery only after the age of 15, when the person already has a sufficient sense of responsibility and cooperates better in subsequent care than a little child. We also perform the surgery on older people who may suffer from a pulled lobe because of aging

The procedure cannot be performed in acute infection or if the patient suffers from a serious illness.

HOW DOES THE PROCEDURE WORK?

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia; the anaesthetic is injected directly into the lobe. In the reconstruction of the earlobe after wearing tunnels, it is usually necessary to remove part of the stretched tissue so that the earlobe has a natural shape. Subsequently, the doctor sews the earlobe with a fine stitch and covers the place with a bandage

For the patient, the procedure is simple and, thanks to local anaesthesia, painless. Sensitivity, slight swelling or common pain may occur about an hour after the procedure. The situation can be solved by freely available analgesics, but usually this is not necessary.

Depending on the extent of correction, a small scar of various shapes is formed. This scar heals well and becomes little visible over time. The whole procedure takes 10 to 30 minutes at the Esthé Laser Clinic.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE PROCEDURE?

Preparation for reducing the ear holes or their complete stitching is completely undemanding. First, you will undergo an initial consultation with an expert who will evaluate the defect rate and propose a solution. He will then explain the whole procedure to you, give you information about the surgery and instruct you about the behaviour after it is over.

The procedure itself does not require any special preparation, but it is necessary to tell the doctor about any allergies to medicaments and disinfectants.

HOW TO BEHAVE AFTER THE PROCEDURE?

On the second day, it is possible to remove the bandage and take a shower at the site of the procedure. On the second day, you can also go to work with respect to the job description. At least a week after the surgery, it is not recommended to visit the pool or sauna, and it is advisable to avoid physical exertion until the stitches are removed. Ideally, however, the patient should avoid these activities until complete healing, otherwise there is a risk of getting an infection into the surgical wound. After two weeks, the stitches will be checked and removed.

After correcting the torn earlobe with keeping the original small hole, it is possible to start wearing earrings after 3 months. With complete stitching of the earhole, it is recommended to pierce no earlier than after half a year.

HOW MUCH DOES THE PROCEDURE COST?

The price for sewing one hole is 4,500 CZK, with each subsequent one the unit price is lower. Correction of earlobes after the so-called tunnels is more difficult, so the price of the procedure is around 6,900 CZK and above. The complete price list can be found here.

Alice Maixnerová, MD, will guide you through the issue as part of the Esthé Laser Clinic video counseling.
